Family Dentistry

At Keyzer Family Dentistry, we know that a healthy smile can last for decades with the right preventative care. Our focus on disease prevention and early intervention gives your family the resources it needs to keep your teeth (and gums) healthy for a lifetime. When you have the information and care you need, you can reduce your chances of developing decay, periodontal disease, and even TMJ disorder.

 Preventative Care

and Checkups

It’s recommended that you see your family dentist for a checkup and cleaning twice a year to keep your smile healthy. These six month visits will allow you to stay ahead of any potential concerns, intercepting minor issues like gingivitis while they’re still reversible.

During your checkup, we’ll provide services like:

  • Healthy-mouth cleanings
  • Oral cancer exam
  • Periodontal assessment (gum disease screening)
  • Digital X-rays
  • Personalized oral hygiene advice
  • Dental sealants and fluoride for children

           …and more.

If you happen to exhibit any symptoms of periodontal infection, Dr. Keyzer will recommend soft tissue therapy. Because gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss, preventative care and checkups are a smart investment when it comes to a healthy smile!

Minimally Invasive Fillings

Dr. Keyzer chooses to use modest composite dental fillings which are smaller and more aesthetic than traditional silver restorations. These small fillings bond closely with your tooth enamel, maximizing the preservation of additional healthy tooth structure throughout the process.

By screening for early signs of decay, we can intercept cavities when they are small. This reduces the extent of treatment you potentially need in the future, thus limiting your financial investment in regard to dental care.

Oral Sleep Appliances

Did you know that your oral anatomy directly impacts your quality of sleep? Conditions such as oral sleep apnea (OSA) can be brought on by airway blockage near the back of your throat and upper airway. Dr. Keyzer offers custom oral sleep appliances to assist in managing certain sleeping disorders, improving your sleep quality, metabolism, cardiovascular health, and more.

If you struggle with chronic fatigue, weight gain, high blood pressure, or even depression, it can be worthwhile to ask about a sleep apnea screening during your next dental exam. Dr. Keyzer can easily assess common oral symptoms of sleeping disorders during your regular checkup.

Should I Extract My Tooth?

Dental extractions are typically recommended in instances related to:

  • Non-restorable teeth
  • Severe pain or infection
  • Advanced periodontal disease
  • Full mouth reconstruction
  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • Dental abscesses

Restoring and preserving your natural teeth is typically our first choice in most cases. But sometimes what’s best for the individual is to have problematic teeth removed as quickly as possible. Particularly if the tooth is too damaged to repair with a crown or endodontic therapy.

After therapeutic tooth removal, Dr. Keyzer may recommend replacing that tooth with a fixed restoration, such as a dental implant or bridge. Doing so will help preserve your overall tooth alignment and reduce premature aging in your facial profile after tooth loss.

Putting Comfort First

Whether you prefer to have your fillings completed under dental sedation or are happy tuning things out as you watch the television, we’ll cater your care plan to you. We also offer comfort amenities like a neck pillow, blanket, bottled water, and coffee.
